Presidential Elections: JMM authorises Guruji to take final call

Ranchi: The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has authorized party supremo and Rajya Sabha MP Shibu Soren to take a final call over whom to extend support in the upcoming Presidential Elections.

Earlier the party had called a meeting of its MPs and MLAs to take a decision over the matter but it failed to arrive at a consensus after which it was agreed to authorize Shibu Soren to take a final call. Insiders said that the party is still in a dilemma over whom to support in the Presidential Polls as the NDA has fielded former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu who hails from the Santhal Tribal Community while UPA has fielded former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha as its candidate. Sinha hails from Hazaribagh of Jharkhand and is a joint candidate of the opposition parties.

JMM is running the government in Jharkhand with Congress and RJD support. After the end of the meeting which lasted for more than two hours, senior MLA Nalin Soren said that Chief Minister Hemant Soren will meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi after which a decision will be taken on the matter. On the other hand cabinet minister Mithlesh Thakur said that decision has not been taken and one or two more meetings will be held over the issue after which a decision will be taken.

JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya on his part claimed that a detailed discussion on numerous issues including the prevailing political situation in the state along with Presidential Polls were discussed in the meeting. He said that whatever decision will be taken it will be in the interest of the country and state. However, he denied whether the Chief Minister was going to New Delhi to meet the Union Home Minister.
