PM-KISAN payouts cross Rs 4.27 lakh crore as latest instalment benefits over 9.3 crore farmers

New Delhi — With the release of over Rs 18,640 crore as the latest instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, total transfers to farmers under the scheme have now crossed Rs 4.27 lakh crore, according to an official factsheet.

The instalment, released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi this month, has benefited more than 9.32 crore farmers across the country, including around 2.15 crore women beneficiaries.

Launched in 2019, PM-KISAN has emerged as one of the world’s largest direct benefit transfer (DBT) programmes, providing assured income support to landholding farmer families. Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.

The system relies on Aadhaar-based authentication and digitised land records, ensuring transparency and timely transfer of funds to verified beneficiaries.

Highlighting the government’s continued focus on farmer welfare, the Union Budget 2026–27 has earmarked Rs 60,000 crore for the scheme.

Studies by organisations such as International Food Policy Research Institute and NITI Aayog indicate that the scheme has helped boost farm incomes and reduce dependence on informal credit sources.

Farmers across regions say the timely financial support has enabled them to invest in seeds, fertilisers, and other inputs, improving productivity and encouraging diversification.

Overall, PM-KISAN continues to play a key role in strengthening income security for farmers while supporting agricultural growth across the country.
