People pelt stone protesting cremation of dead due to Covid-19 in Jamshedpur, 2 injured, many taken into custody

Jamshedpur: Protesting against the cremation of two people who had died due to Coronavirus locals indulged in stone-pelting in which 3 people including a female police jawan were injured.

Post the incident police took at least a dozen people into custody. At the end normalcy was restored and somehow the bodies were cremated.

An 88-year-old woman from Sakchi and a 71-year-old man from Sonari had died due to Coronavirus in the TMH. The district administration had already decided that the cremation of people dying due to Coronavirus would be held at the burning Ghat located on the banks of Swarnarekha at Bhuiyaandih.

But fearing protests of the people police since Saturday evening was deployed in the area. On Sunday morning near Bhuiyaandih, JP Bus Terminal and near the burning Ghat policemen under Magistrate were deployed and all of them had been given PPE kits.

As soon as the team of the administration reached the Ghat along with the bodies locals including women started gathering in large numbers and protested against the cremation claiming that Coronavirus will spread in their areas.

The officials tried to convince them but it failed to yield results. As things out of hand people indulged in stone-pelting after which police were forced to use mild force to remove the crowd from the area.
