NITI Aayog meeting: CM to demand special package on drought

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren will attend the 7th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog to be held in Delhi on Sunday. He had left for Delhi on Friday itself to attend the meeting. In this meeting to be held at the Cultural Center of Rashtrapati Bhavan under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Ministers of various states of the country will attend along with Hemant Soren.

The Chief Minister is likely to demand a special package in view of the possible drought in the state. The rationale behind asking for a special package of the state government is that there has been 60 to 75 percent less rainfall in about ten districts of the state.

The most worrying situation in the state is that of Santhal, which includes Sahibganj, Jamtara, Godda, Palamu, Deoghar, Chatra and Pakur districts.

Due to the lack of rain in these districts, paddy has not been planted. Apart from this, issues like infrastructure development, and problems faced by Jharkhand in the implementation of the new education policy will also be raised in the meeting. The demand for arrears in central items can also be made by the government.
