Ranchi: Nine members of a vehicle lifting gang including the mastermind have been arrested from the Namkum Police Station area of the state capital.
However, while trying to catch up the gang members officer in charge of Namkum Police Station and another police officer sustained injuries.
Police said that for the last few days reports had been received regarding loot of four-wheelers and pick-up vans from Namkum and Kanke Police Station areas after which on the directions of Ranchi Rural SP Naushad Aalam an SIT was formed.
The SIT later conducted raids in separate areas of the neighbouring Khunti district and managed to recover both the vehicles. Police said that the mastermind of the gang was Raza Khan alias Irfan a resident of Jannatnagar of Khunti who was arrested with other gang members.
Police said that among the arrested was also one Azim Hawari who had worked as PLFI area commander and more than a dozen cases including murder and extortion are registered against him.
