New cash award announced on heads of six absconding maoists, award renewed on another 120

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has increased the award on six absconding ultras of the CPI Maoists and PLFI.

An official release issued here said that apart from these 6, the award has been renewed on another 120 ultras. So far in Jharkhand, the state government has declared an award on 279 ultras out of which 106 have either been arrested or have surrendered or have been killed in an encounter. So far the award is effective against 173 Maoists.

The award declared against the Maoists would be applicable for two years and after two years again the award would be declared. On the other hand, the DGP has the power to declare an award of up to Rs 5 lakh while SP has the power to declare an award of up to Rs 2 lakh. Award above that amount would be declared by the state government.
