Lohardaga – A brutal double murder has rocked Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district where an elderly woman and her 17-year-old grandson were found dead under mysterious circumstances, officials said.
The incident took place in Bhakso Doomar Toli locality under Lohardaga’s Sadar police station.
The victims have been identified as 60-year-old Baria Oraon and her grandson Ritesh Oraon.
According to the police and family members, both were asleep in different rooms of their home on Thursday night when unknown assailants carried out the deadly attack.
Ritesh was allegedly attacked with a sharp object, while his grandmother Baria Oraon was strangled.
Despite other family members being present in the house, no one heard or noticed anything until morning.
The horrific scene came to light when the family awoke and found the bodies in separate rooms.
Police were informed, and a team led by officer-in-charge Ratnesh Mohan Thakur arrived at the scene to begin the investigation. The bodies were sent for post-mortem to Lohardaga Sadar Hospital.
Superintendent of Police Sadiq Anwar Rizvi visited the crime scene, saying, “All possibilities are being investigated. The motive is unknown, and no murder weapon has been recovered yet. Our priority is to solve the case quickly.”
The incident has created panic among residents, and the police are questioning neighbours and family members to gather leads.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility of a personal dispute or a pre-planned murder.
