Mixed response to opposition bandh over amendment in land acquisition Act

Ranchi, Jul 5: The opposition sponsored Jharkhand bandh over the land acquisition amendment bill hit normal life in Jharkhand adversely as not only the shops and business establishments remained closed but vehicular movement including trains were also disrupted by the bandh supporters.

 

Leader of the opposition and former Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Babulal Marandi of the JVM(P) alongwith Subodhkant Sahai of the Congress who hit the roads alongwith their supporters during the bandh were taken into custody and forwarded to camp jail. Over all in the state more than 16000 bandh supporters were taken into custody.

 

In the state capital Ranchi majority of the schools remained shut while long distance vehicles plying from the capital to various districts of the state also did not move giving a tough time to the commuters. At Singh Mode the bandh supporters blocked traffic movement on the Ranchi Khunti road.

A report from sub capital said that despite the morning rain workers and leaders of JMM, RJD, CPI and Congress hit the roads and blocked traffic movement. In Dhanbad also the bandh supporters indulged in road blocked and at some places burnt tires to register their protest. A report from Koderma said that the bandh witnessed a mixed response in the area. In Giridih also the opposition leaders took out procession and blocked traffic movement on GT road for some time.

 

In Deoghar the opposition workers blocked traffic movement at Tower chowk while in Barharwa of Sahibganj the workers stopped train movement due to which for some time few mail and express trains were stranded at various railway stations. In Chatra the bandh supporters blocked Chatra-Gaya and Gaya Ranchi road while in Palamu the bandh had a mixed response.
