Mix response to opposition Jharkhand shutdown

Ranchi  July05 :  Jharkhand is witnessing mix response to shutdown on Thursday called by the united opposition parties to protest the Land Acquisition Amendment Act 2013.


More than 1000 workers have have been arrested 11 am in different parts of the state. The opposition parties workers hit the roads to enforce shutdown. The shops and schools  are closed are closed.

The long routes buses are not plying. IN Sahebganj district the train services were affected due to shutdown.


The Jharkhand government had  warned of strict action against anyone found indulging in violence during a united opposition Thursday shutdown.

Around  5,000 jawans of the state police have been deployed along with two companies of Rapid Action Force, six companies of Reserve Armed Police and 3,100 home guard jawans.

“Anyone found damaging public or private property will be dealt with as per law. They will have to pay for the losses incurred” the home secretary SK rahate had said Wednesday.


The state Assembly in August 2017 passed the amendment bill by voice vote and the President cleared it last month.

The state government says people-oriented projects are delayed due to social impact studies. After the amendment, the government will be able to acquire land directly from the owners.
