Jamshedpur: In a shocking late-night attack, a loco pilot was shot dead by unknown assailants near the running room close to Tatanagar railway station, triggering panic in the area.
The victim, identified as Gyanendra Kumar Gautam, was a resident of Adityapur in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place around midnight when Gautam was on his way to the railway lobby to report for duty. Two attackers, believed to have been waiting for him, arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire without warning.
Gautam suffered multiple bullet injuries, including a fatal shot to the chest, and died on the spot.
The incident caused immediate alarm in the vicinity. Senior police officials, including the City SP, reached the scene shortly after being informed and began an investigation. The area was quickly sealed off.
Early reports indicate that the attackers fled towards Bagbera after carrying out the shooting. Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and conducting raids to track down the suspects.
The killing has left railway staff and local residents shaken. Police have stated that all possible angles are being examined and assured that efforts are underway to arrest those responsible at the earliest.
