Marandi Links Baraik’s Exit from TMC to Growing Tribal Support for BJP

Ranchi: Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Babulal Marandi, on Thursday described the resignation of Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Chik Baraik as an indication of a changing political mindset among tribal communities.

Reacting to Baraik’s decision to quit both the Rajya Sabha and the Trinamool Congress, Marandi said the development reflected a shift away from appeasement and dynastic politics towards nationalism and development-focused governance.

In a post on X, the BJP leader claimed that Baraik’s resignation signalled the growing confidence of tribal communities in the Bharatiya Janata Party. He further asserted that the mandate of the people of West Bengal was increasingly tilting in favour of the BJP.

Marandi said the resignation should not be viewed as an isolated political move but as a broader reflection of changing sentiments among tribal communities. According to him, tribal voters in Jharkhand are closely observing the BJP’s efforts on issues related to water, forests, land, culture and dignity.

He also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for providing greater political representation and recognition to tribal communities across the country.

Taking a swipe at the Trinamool Congress, Marandi said the series of resignations from the party pointed to a decline in public confidence. He claimed that the emerging political trend could significantly influence the future of politics in eastern India.

According to Marandi, increasing participation of tribal communities in mainstream politics and their growing support for the BJP could play a decisive role in reshaping the region’s political landscape in the years ahead.

After stepping down from the Rajya Sabha, Prakash Chik Baraik also resigned from the primary membership of the Trinamool Congress. Speaking to reporters, he said he had decided to quit in view of the mandate delivered by voters in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections.

“The people have given a clear mandate. Respecting that mandate, I have decided to resign from the Rajya Sabha. I have also resigned from the Trinamool Congress and will work according to the directions of the Chief Minister in the coming days,” Baraik said.

Baraik is the third Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member to resign from both the Upper House and the party within the last four days. Earlier, Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Sushmita Dev had also stepped down.

With Baraik’s departure, the Trinamool Congress’ strength in the Rajya Sabha has come down from 13 members to 10.
