Marandi accuses govt of protecting Bangladeshi infiltrators

Ranchi: BJP state president and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has made serious allegations against the state govt, accusing it of providing protection to Bangladeshi infiltrators.

Marandi said that according to reports, 13 suspected Bangladeshis were detained in Mumbai yesterday, all of whom possess Aadhaar cards issued from the Radhanagar area of Sahibganj district in Jharkhand. He added that all the detained individuals—one woman and twelve men—have the same date of birth recorded as January 1.

He further stated that when questioned today, the Sahibganj SP informed him that the local DC has formed a committee to investigate the matter.

Marandi pointed out that due to the proximity to the Bangladesh border, areas like Sahibganj and Pakur have often been in the news for infiltration issues. He alleged that in its bid to create a vote bank, the Hemant Soren government is facilitating large-scale infiltration of Bangladeshis, getting them Aadhaar and voter ID cards made. As a result, he warned, the very existence of tribals in the Santhal Pargana region is under threat.

Highlighting the government’s intentions, Marandi said that when the High Court ordered an inquiry into infiltration, the state government went to the Supreme Court to block the investigation.

He demanded that the government should not cover up or suppress the matter in the name of inquiry. Marandi called for the immediate disclosure of when the Aadhaar cards of the detained individuals were made, who was responsible, and under what circumstances they were issued. He also urged strict action against those involved and asked that the Sahibganj district administration provide a full factual report on the situation.
