Latehar: A top Maoist leader of the outlawed group Jharkhand Janmukti Parishad (JJMP), Lovelesh Ganjhu, surrendered to the police in Latehar on Tuesday.
Ganjhu, carrying a bounty of ₹5 lakh, surrendered in the presence of Palamu Zonal Inspector General Sunil Bhaskar, Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav, and senior CRPF officials.
Actively involved in Maoist activities in Latehar and surrounding areas for years, Ganjhu had been evading arrest through clever disguises and frequent movement. He was involved in serious crimes such as extortion, violence, and attacks on law enforcement.
Officials said the surrender came after sustained pressure from ongoing joint operations by the police and CRPF. Financial troubles, the collapse of JJMP’s structure, and the elimination of senior commanders contributed to his decision.
Earlier, on June 18, another JJMP leader, Baijnath Singh, also surrendered under similar circumstances.
Ganjhu’s surrender deals a significant blow to the JJMP, especially following the recent killing of its chief, Pappu Lohara.
Police have assured surrendered militants of rehabilitation support, while also warning others to give up arms or face consequences.
