Man Stabs Wife to Death at In-Laws’ House in Giridih, Lynched by Villagers

Giridih — A violent double murder has rocked Lukaiya village in Jharkhand’s Giridih district, where a man killed his wife and was later lynched by enraged villagers, police reported on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in the Mufassil police station area. The man, identified as Chhotelal Hansda, stabbed his wife, Meena Hansda, to death at her parents’ home during a heated dispute.

According to police, the couple had been married for eight years, but their relationship had been strained for some time, leading Meena to leave her husband’s house and stay with her parents.

Efforts to reconcile them were ongoing, but during Chhotelal’s visit to Lukaiya village, an argument turned deadly. In a fit of rage, he attacked Meena with a knife, killing her on the spot.

As Chhotelal tried to flee, villagers and Meena’s family chased him down and beat him so severely that he died on the spot.

Police officials, including Sadar SDPO Jeetwahan Oraon and Mufassil police station in-charge Shyam Kishore Mahato, reached the site shortly after.

“After killing his wife, Chhotelal tried to run away but was caught and beaten to death by villagers. We are filing two separate cases—one for Meena’s murder and another for Chhotelal’s lynching,” SDPO Oraon stated.

He added that legal action has been initiated against those responsible for the mob assault. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. The tragic incident has sparked widespread anger and mourning in the village.
