Man kills cousin in Palamu, dies by suicide hours later

Palamu — A tragic incident in Jharkhand’s Palamu has left a family devastated after a young man allegedly killed his cousin sister before taking his own life within hours.

The incident took place in the Sua Kaudiya area under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station. According to preliminary reports, the accused, identified as Bittu Kumar Singh, had a heated argument late Sunday night with his cousin Khushboo Kumari, who had been staying at her maternal uncle’s home for her studies.

Police sources indicate that the dispute may have been linked to a suspected love affair. In a sudden outburst, Bittu allegedly attacked Khushboo multiple times with an axe (locally called a tangi), killing her on the spot.

After the attack, he fled and reportedly told family members that he intended to end his life. On Monday morning, his body was found on a nearby railway track, confirming that he had died by suicide.

Police reached the scene after being alerted by villagers and recovered the weapon used in the crime. The twin deaths have left the family in deep shock, with relatives struggling to come to terms with the incident.

Station in-charge Lalji said initial findings suggest the crime was triggered by a personal dispute. “Based on family statements and preliminary investigation, it appears he killed his cousin and later died by suicide, possibly out of guilt or fear,” he stated.

Both bodies have been sent to Medinirai Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Police are continuing the investigation, including examining call records and other evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.
