Ranchi: A fatal road accident occurred late last night near Kahaldiha Mor in the Baliyapur police station area, claiming the life of 55-year-old sitting master Asil Mahto and seriously injuring another individual. The incident sparked outrage among locals, who blocked the Baliyapur-Govindpur main road for nearly four hours, demanding compensation and government action.
Asil Mahto, a resident of Nipenia Kuludih, was returning home on his motorcycle after visiting a relative when a speeding four-wheeler hit his bike head-on. He died on the spot, while his co-rider sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Mahto, who worked as a sitting master, was the sole breadwinner of his family, leaving his loved ones devastated by the sudden tragedy.
Upon hearing the news, villagers gathered in large numbers and staged a protest by blocking the highway. The traffic remained at a standstill, creating a long jam on the busy road. The villagers insisted on immediate compensation for the deceased’s family and demanded steps to improve road safety.
Baliyapur police and administrative officials, including Block Officer Praveen Kumar Singh, reached the scene to manage the situation. Singh assured the villagers that the family would receive proper compensation and that the official process would begin without delay.
Later, Sindri MLA Bablu Mahto also visited the protest site. Expressing sorrow over the incident, he assured the family of full support and called for permanent solutions to the rising number of road accidents in the area. After receiving assurances from both the administration and the MLA, the villagers lifted the blockade, and normal traffic resumed late in the night.
