Ranchi: Police have arrested Nageshwar Mahato, who created panic by brandishing a pistol inside the Sadar SDO office at the collectorate premises. Acting under the supervision of Kotwali DSP Prakash Soe, a police team apprehended Mahato and seized a firearm along with ten live cartridges.
DSP Soe informed on Saturday that the shocking incident took place around 3 p.m. on October 24, when Mahato allegedly threatened government employees and pulled out a pistol from his waist inside the office.
The staff showed remarkable courage by restraining the man and immediately informing senior officers, following which police reached the spot and arrested him.
The incident occurred in Room No. 210 of Block ‘B’ at the collectorate. Employees were busy with official work when the accused entered and inquired about an online certificate related to Bargain Anchal. When told that the concerned staff member was on leave and asked to return later, he began shouting and hurling abuses at the employees.
According to eyewitnesses, Mahato insulted the staff, saying, “You people do cheap jobs and dare to advise me,” before drawing his pistol and waving it around, causing panic in the office.
Police have taken Mahato into custody and launched a detailed investigation into the source of the weapon and his motive.
