Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday asked the officials to make plans for Urban development keeping into account the requirements of the next thirty years.
Chairing a review meeting of the urban development and housing department he said that there were population and vehicular pressure on the capital city of Ranchi which should be streamlined so that people can get a clean environment. He asked the department to develop a mechanism for rainwater harvesting as it will help to address water-related issues in the city and also instructed to ensure proper cleanliness in the cities.
He asked the department to develop taxi stand, bus stand and transport Nagar in the capital and said that land for these projects should be identified as soon as possible. He further asked to establish night market, food market, urban haats and Kissan markets in Ranchi and other cities and if needed small vending zones should be set up in the cities for the benefits of the street vendors.
He said that different departments are running schemes relate to water supply however it was important that all these departments should work in coordination so that water supply remains proper. He said that such mechanism should be developed that while laying water pipelines the roads are not damaged and with proper planning water supply system should be rectified.
The Chief Minister said that a plan should be prepared to undertake maintenance of the toilets which have been prepared under the Swach Bharat Mission. He said that toilets will be only used if they are near and clean therefore a database of toilets should be prepared and maintenance works should be done.
He also directed to bring changes in the mechanism of solid waste management. He said that without use of modern resources solid waste management was not possible and asked the officials to strengthen door to door garbage collection. He even suggested to address the issue of lack of resources among the Municipal bodies.
The Chief Minister directed the officials that in the night shelter homes during the day Dal-Bhaat Yojana should be started as people living in these centers will be benefitted and in the urban areas the women self-help groups should be given the responsibility to run the centers.
He also suggested the officials to set up male self-help groups to link the youth with jobs. He asked the officials to make an assessment of vacant posts and commence the process of recruitment.
Those present included Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh, Development Commissioner KK Khandelwal and officials of the departments concerned.
