Lisa Ray reacts to Dubai tensions, says watching events in ‘second home’ has been difficult

Mumbai — Actress and author Lisa Ray has shared an emotional reflection on the recent tensions in Dubai, saying it has been painful to watch developments unfold in a place she considers her “second home.”

Taking to social media, Ray posted a thoughtful note about uncertainty, resilience and the healing power of art during difficult times. She revealed that writing has always been a source of comfort for her, especially when life feels unclear.

The actress said she had quietly created an online space in the past to share poetry, describing words as her refuge whenever clarity fades. She also disclosed that she has been privately working on a collection of poems and now feels ready to share that side of herself more openly.

Reflecting on the current situation, Ray wrote that witnessing events in Dubai has been emotionally challenging, even though she believes residents of the United Arab Emirates remain relatively safe. She described the atmosphere of uncertainty and the anxious conversations between friends as everyone waits and watches developments closely.

Ray also shared a poem she wrote spontaneously, explaining that it was offered in its raw, unedited form for people around the world dealing with instability and fear.

In her post, she spoke about her husband’s childhood in Lebanon, where hearing missiles overhead was part of everyday life. She said the poem was a tribute to his resilience, the strength of his family, and countless families globally who have grown up in the shadow of conflict.

The actress added that one line in the poem was inspired by a sentence from her sister Avni Doshi’s upcoming novel The First House, noting that art often draws inspiration from other creative works.

Ray concluded her message by encouraging people to respond to uncertain times with creativity, compassion and expression, emphasizing that art can help people carry emotional burdens together.

On the professional front, Ray has built a diverse career in Indian and international cinema. She rose to prominence with films such as Kasoor and earned critical acclaim for her role in Water, directed by Deepa Mehta. Over the years, she has worked across Hindi, Tamil and international projects, including television and digital productions.

Beyond her acting career, Ray has also inspired many with her personal journey. In 2009, she was diagnosed with Multiple myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer. After undergoing treatment, she later announced that she was cancer-free, becoming a symbol of resilience for many.
