Ranchi: Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital has become the first educational institution in eastern India to be recognised by the country’s National Board of Examinations for fellowship studies in vitreoretinal surgery.
Dr BP Kashyap, the director of Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital, said that it has become the only hospital in Jharkhand where formal training in ophthalmic surgery would be imparted. Dr Bibbhuti Kashyap, a retina specialist at the hospital said that this recognition has been achieved after going through many parameters. Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital also gets the credit for the initiative of blind eye surgery in the state. The surgery of the retina is considered to be the most complex surgery on the eyes. This is the long-lasting operation of the eyes.
The state’s highest number of blind patients has been cured in this hospital. The retina department is run under the supervision of Dr Bibbhuti Kashyap who is the only AIIMS-trained double FRCS Retinal Surgeon in the State.
Around three years ago the facility of electrophysiology examination of the retina and nerves of the eyes had also started for the first time at Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital. Currently, this test is only available in Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital. The test is very safe for patients suffering from heart disease, kidney disease, diabetes, or blood pressure.
