Garhwa (Jharkhand) — A 32-year-old junior engineer from Uttar Pradesh, who had travelled to Jharkhand’s Garhwa district to attend a wedding, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Thursday morning.
The deceased, Vikas Vishwakarma, was working as a junior engineer with the Electricity Department in Obra, Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh. He originally hailed from Gandhinagar in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh.
Vishwakarma had come to Mahudand village in Garhwa’s Dandai block for the wedding of a friend of his brother. On Wednesday night, the wedding procession moved to Singhpur Marchwar village in the same district.
Villagers said Vishwakarma was seen enjoying the celebrations and dancing with friends. However, at some point during the night, he went missing. His friends tried calling him but failed to reach him. They later informed his family and alerted the local police.
Bansidhar Nagar police launched a search operation. On Thursday morning, villagers noticed a body floating in a well. It was later identified as that of Vikas Vishwakarma.
Police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Bansidhar Nagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satyendra Kumar visited the site and spoke to villagers to gather initial information. Police are investigating whether the death was accidental or if foul play was involved.
Friends and family members present at the wedding are also being questioned as part of the investigation.
“The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received,” said a police official.
News of the incident spread quickly, causing shock and concern in the village.
