JMM asks Govt to bring patient medical protection bill

Ranchi, May 10: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has asked the state
government to bring a patient protection bill instead of medical
protection bill.

Addressing a press conference here central general secretary of the
party Supriyo Bhattacharya said that the medical protection bill has
been brought for the big corporate who run nursing homes and private
hospitals in the state but this would not be able to protect the
patients and their families. He said that this bll will also not have
benefit for the doctors and para medical staff, the only beneficiaries
would be the corporates.

He said that the party believe that no section should be hurt and all
sections of the society get protection, however it is often seen that
the big private hospitals take large amount of money from the kin of
the patients that too in advance and immediately the patient is taken
into ICU so that the bills can be increased, moreover the relatives
are also not allowed to meet.

He said that in such a scenario it is important that a patient
protection bill is brought which would inform the patient about the
type of tests, estimated cost of treatment and there should also be a
provision to audit the prescription of the doctor so that one can get
to see the medicines prescribed.
