Jharkhand Speaker defers hearing against 3 Congress MLAs

Ranchi: Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto on Thursday deferred hearing till September 5 in the matter involving three Congress legislators-Irfan Ansari, Naman Vixel Kongari and Rajesh Kachap. They are in Kolkata after the Calcutta High Court, while granting them interim bail, restricted their movement outside Bengal.

The development took place after the trio through electronic mail informed the tribunal that they are unable to remain present during the hearing as they neither have mobile phones nor laptop computers to participate in the hearing. Senior Congress legislator and parliamentary affairs minister in the Hemant Soren government Alamgir Alam had knocked the door of the Speaker’s tribunal seeking termination of their membership saying the West Bengal police arrested them with cash and they are involved in making an attempt to topple the state government.

Thus before the tribunal granted time, the advocate appearing on behalf of Alam raised an objection to it saying the trio attempted to evade appearance taking some pretext of having no electronic device.
