Jharkhand MLA’s son found safe after alleged kidnapping report triggers police search

Ranchi- A reported kidnapping involving Saurabh Kumar, son of Chatra MLA Janardan Paswan, triggered an urgent police response in Ranchi on Monday before investigators found that the youth had gone out with his friends and had not been abducted.

Saurabh, a student at Amity University, Ranchi, was traced by police within about an hour of receiving information about his alleged disappearance. During questioning, police found no evidence to suggest that he had been kidnapped.

The incident initially caused considerable concern in Ranchi and Chatra after reports emerged that Saurabh had allegedly been forcibly taken away from near the university campus.

According to information provided by MLA Janardan Paswan, several people travelling in three to four Scorpio vehicles had allegedly assaulted his son before taking him away. The MLA subsequently contacted senior police officials and requested an immediate search operation. Saurabh’s vehicle was reportedly found parked outside the university gate.

Taking the complaint seriously, Ranchi Police quickly deployed teams to trace the youth and establish what had happened. Officers checked CCTV footage from the area, examined the movements of the vehicles mentioned in the initial report and spoke to people who may have witnessed the incident.

The search, however, ended within a short time when Saurabh was located and brought back safely. During preliminary questioning, police learnt that he had gone out with friends and that there was no indication of an abduction.

The development brought relief to the family and brought the immediate search operation to an end. Police are now looking into how the kidnapping information originated and whether any confrontation or other incident took place before the report was made.

Officials are also expected to verify the accounts of Saurabh and other people who were present around the time of the reported incident. Any further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.

The case highlights how quickly an alleged kidnapping can trigger a major police response, particularly when the report involves a public representative’s family member. At the same time, investigators must establish the facts carefully before drawing conclusions about what actually occurred.
