“Jharkhand HC Rejects Alamgir Alam’s Plea in Tender Scam Case”

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has rejected a petition filed by former minister Alamgir Alam, delivering a significant blow to him in the tender commission scam case. He had approached the court challenging the PMLA court’s order that denied his discharge plea and framed charges against him. The matter is presently under trial, with proceedings at the witness stage.

In a major development earlier, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids on May 6, 2024, targeting multiple engineers, contractors, and individuals linked to Alamgir Alam, including his OSD Sanjeev Lal and aide Jahangir Alam. A huge amount of cash—approximately ₹32.2 crore—was seized from Jahangir Alam’s residence during the operation.

Further searches led to the recovery of ₹10.5 lakh from Sanjeev Lal’s home and ₹2.3 lakh from his office located in the Secretariat. These findings intensified the probe, eventually bringing Alamgir Alam under scrutiny.

The ED summoned him for questioning on May 14 and 15, 2024, and later arrested him on May 15. He has been in judicial custody since then.
