Jharkhand Govt decided to release 78 prisoners facing life imprisonment

Ranchi, May 30: The Jharkhand Government has decided to release 78 prisoners facing life imprisonment in separate jails of the state.

A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the  Jharkhand State Punsihment Review Council at the Project Bhawan. A total of 87 cases were brought before the council in which it was decided that 78 of these prisoners would be set free as most of them had completed more than 15 years of prison term. It was unanimously decided that since theyr were growing ld and had no previous crime record therefore they should be set free.

The maximum number of 27 prisoners would be released from Birsa Munda Jial Hotwar Ranchi, another 24 from Jai Prakash Narayan Prison Hazaribagh, 17 from Dumka Jail, 11 from Palamu, 7 from Jamshedpur and 1 from Garhwa jail.

Those present in the meeting included Principal Secretary Home SKG Rahate, Ganesh Dutt, DGP D  K Pandey, Principal Secretary of the Chief Minister Sanjay Kumar and IG Jail Suman Gupta.
