Jharkhand: CBI Arrests Postal Inspector and Assistant Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe

New Delhi — In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested a Postal Inspector and an Assistant from the main post office in Saraikela district headquarters, Jharkhand, after they were caught red-handed accepting a bribe.

During the raid, the agency seized cash and incriminating documents, which are now being examined. Both accused officials are currently under interrogation at the CBI regional office in Ranchi.

According to official sources, the CBI had received a complaint from Ranjan Das, who was recently selected for the position of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS). The complaint alleged that the two postal officials had demanded ₹20,000 as a bribe to approve his joining.

After verifying the complaint, the CBI set up a trap operation and apprehended the duo while accepting the bribe amount. Subsequent searches were carried out at the post office and the residences of the accused, where officials found additional cash, documents, and records of suspicious financial transactions.

The CBI is also investigating the possible involvement of other postal employees in the bribery racket. Sources said that similar complaints about recruitment irregularities at the Saraikela Post Office had surfaced earlier.

Once the interrogation and procedural formalities are completed, the accused will be produced before a special CBI court.

This is the second major action by the CBI in Jharkhand this week. Earlier, the agency’s Anti-Corruption Branch arrested Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) HR officer Deepak Giri in Khilari for accepting a ₹50,000 bribe, after allegedly demanding ₹1.5 lakh for granting a compassionate job appointment.
