Ranchi: Under the European Union International Urban and Regional Cooperation Program, Carlotta Bonvicini, Deputy Mayor of Italy’s Reggio Emilia, along with her two colleagues, got to know the specialty and its important aspects of Ranchi Smart City under construction in Ranchi. She also appreciated the Command Control and Communication Centre, Public Cycle Sharing System operating in the city. Rakesh Kumar Nandkyolyar, General Manager, Ranchi Smart City, apprised the delegation about every aspect through power point presentation.
During this, the command control and communication center set up by Ranchi Smart City and the traffic system of Ranchi operated automatically was also discussed. The delegation members also saw several live demos and learned how this system can simultaneously address the entire city while sitting in the command center. She was told that this center also has an important role in crime control and investigation of criminal incidents.
The members were also told that several teams of police are also present in this center which is working 24×7. The Cooperation Sustainable Urban Development Inauguration Program has been started between Ranchi and Reggio Emilia, under which knowledge sharing programs will also be held to promote non-motorized transport between the two cities. It was informed by the Ranchi Smart City Corporation that in order to promote non-motorized transport, public cycle sharing system is working in Ranchi city, the benefits of which are being taken by people of all classes.
Children and youth Many people are using cycles for educational work and many youths are also using cycles for their daily bread. In this sequence, the members of the delegation also enjoyed the cycle service running in Ranchi. The members also took information about the utility services being developed in Ranchi Smart City and visited the entire ABD area.
The GM and other officials of Ranchi Smart City informed about the development of the city, state-of-the-art facilities being provided in it and the measures taken for the environment. It was told that this city is being developed as a knowledge hub. He said that if any university is ranked within 500 in the QS ranking, then it can be given 25 acres of land for opening a university at Re 1 token money.
Reggio Emilia gave a presentation based on their city and explained what facilities are being provided for sustainable mobility in their city. She said that the roads there are similar to those of Ranchi, but giving special attention to cycling, they have marked cycling tracks and incentives are also given to those who go to office by bicycle.
The delegation members took a bicycle tour of the ABD area of Ranchi Smart City and appreciated the work being done in the Smart City. Leading the delegation, Reggio Emilia told the city’s deputy mayor that the work being done here is top class and the city will be a model city for the surrounding areas.
