Iran Offers Fresh Plan to Reopen Hormuz, Pause Nuclear Talks: Report

Washington — Iran has reportedly put forward a new proposal to the United States aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending ongoing hostilities, while deferring nuclear negotiations to a later stage.

According to Axios, the proposal is designed to break the current deadlock in talks and sidestep internal divisions within Iran’s leadership over how much it is willing to concede on its nuclear programme.

However, the report notes that lifting the blockade and ending the conflict could reduce leverage for Donald Trump in future negotiations—particularly on key objectives such as curbing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and halting further enrichment activities.

Citing US officials, the report adds that President Trump is expected to convene a Situation Room meeting with his national security and foreign policy team to assess the impasse and consider next steps.

In a recent interview with Fox News, Trump indicated he favours continuing the naval blockade to restrict Iran’s oil exports, suggesting that sustained pressure could eventually force Tehran to concede.

The development follows heightened tensions after talks held in Islamabad concluded without any breakthrough, leaving both sides at a diplomatic standstill.
