Ranchi: India continued their stellar run at the 4th South Asian Athletics Championships 2025, adding 18 medals on Day 2 at the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium in Ranchi. The hosts secured seven gold, eight silver, and three bronze medals on Saturday, taking their overall tally to 32.
Sri Lanka followed closely with eight golds and 23 total medals, while Nepal remained in third place with three bronze medals.
In the women’s 100m hurdles, India’s Nandhini K clinched gold with a time of 13.56s, followed by compatriot Moumita Mondal (silver) and Sri Lanka’s Wijewera Vitha (bronze).
Manav R grabbed gold in the men’s 110m hurdles clocking 13.78s, as Sri Lanka’s Ranatungage Roshan settled for silver and India’s Krishik M took bronze. Sanjana Singh secured her second gold of the meet in the women’s 1500m final with 4:25.36s, while Sri Lanka’s W.K.L. Nimali won silver and Kajal Kanwade bronze.
In the men’s 1500m, Arjun Waskale topped the field with 3:54.58s, ahead of Sri Lankans Gallage Rusiru Chath and Rojideen Mohamathu. India’s Neeru Pathak won gold in the women’s 400m (53.15s), followed by Olimba Steffi (silver) and Sri Lanka’s Mendis Balapuwa Sayu (bronze).
In field events, Seema (55.14m) and Nidhi led an Indian one-two finish in the women’s discus throw, while Kirpal Singh (56.22m) continued the dominance in the men’s event, with Nirbhay Singh taking silver. Sri Lanka’s W.D.M. Milant Sampat finished third.
The men’s high jump title went to Sri Lanka’s A. Samaraweera (2.17m), followed by India’s Rohit (2.15m) and Aadarsh Ram (2.09m).
On Friday, India had begun their campaign strongly with multiple golds from Samardeep Gill, Prince Kumar, Sanjana Singh, Yogita, and the mixed 4x400m relay team.
