Home Department report, internet remained halted for 12 days due to violence in nine districts of Jharkhand

Ranchi: Home Jail and Disaster Management has released a report.  According to this report, in the last one year, internet service was disrupted for 12 days in nine districts of Jharkhand. These nine districts include Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Koderma, Giridih, Chatra, Palamu, Ranchi, Lohardaga and Sahebganj. Common people had to face problems due to disrupted internet service. At the same time, it also affected the work.

Violent clashes took place during the immersion of Saraswati idol on February 8, 2022 in Barhi of Hazaribagh district, Markachho of Koderma district and Giridih district. In which one person had died. While many people were injured. After this, internet service was banned for two days in Hazaribagh, Giridih, Koderma, Chatra and Ramgarh districts. Because of this, life in these five districts had become completely disrupted.

Communal violence broke out on 10 April 2022 in Bhokta Bagicha located in Sadar police station area of Lohardaga district. Here the Ramnavmi fair was set on fire and the Ramnavmi procession was pelted with stones. After this, there was chaos in the surrounding areas also. More than 10 people were injured in stone pelting and arson. After which internet service was stopped in Lohardaga for five days.

There was violence in Chi after Friday prayers on 10 June 2022. After this violence, an order was issued to temporarily shut down internet services in Ranchi. This order was issued by Rajiv Arun Ekka, Principal Secretary, Home, Jail and Disaster Management Department.

In the order issued, it was said that due to the incident in the capital, law and order should not be disturbed in other areas of the state, hence it has been decided to temporarily stop the telecom internet service. So that anti-social elements cannot spread rumours, false information. If this happens, a law and order situation may arise. 

The government has taken this decision with the aim of averting an emergency and maintaining the safety of the people. However, a day later, on the night of June 11, internet service was restored. There was a violent clash between two communities in Palamu on 15 February 2023. In view of the tension, the state government had temporarily closed all types of internet services in Palamu district for a day.

There was a violent clash between two communities over the construction of an archway for Mahashivratri in Panki of Palamu district. During this period, there was stone pelting and fighting between the two communities. The mob set a house, two bikes and two shops on fire.

The atmosphere had deteriorated after the statue of Hanuman ji was broken at Patel Chowk in Sahibganj district on the night of April 2, 2023. A day later on April 3, stone pelting took place during the immersion of the idol. Due to which internet service was stopped. However, internet service was restored after 36 hours.
