Heavy rainfall creates havoc in Giridih, 4 killed

Giridih, Oct 11: Incessant rainfall over the last 24 hours in the district has adversely hit normal life as four people were killed while about a dozen bridges and culverts were washed away.

Official sources said that Bengabad block has witnessed the maximum damage as bridge between Nayandabar and Bijlibathan of Bhalkudar was washed away due to which the region has been cut off while the main road connecting Golgo panchayat has been also damaged.

Due to the rainfall the water level of the rivers has also increased and many blocks of the district have lost their contact with the headquarters. In Pirtand block of this district last evening a tree fell on an autorickshaw in which three people were killed on the spot and four others were injured. In a separate road accident under Sariya Police Station area a person was killed.

Bengabad and Gandey blocks have lost their contact with Giridih while water was overflowing in Usri and Jayanti rivers. The Khandoli Dam was also filled to capacity due to rainfall.
