Ranchi: In a major relief to BJP MLA Samri Lal the High Court as it cancelled the government’s order related to quashing of his caste certificate.
The Court has allowed Lal’s petition challenging the cancellation of the caste certificate which gives him scheduled caste (SC) status in Jharkhand and thus makes him eligible for contesting assembly election from the Kanke constituency, which is reserved for SCs.
The order came from the court of Justice Rajesh Shanker. The judgment, in this case, had been reserved on January 10 after hearing the arguments of petitioners Ramchandra Baitha and Lal.
The court termed the cancellation of Lal’s caste certificate by the State Scrutiny Committee as wrong and quashed the order of the State Scrutiny Committee to reject Samri Lal’s caste certificate.
The court, however, observed that the government can get Lal’s caste certificate checked as per the rules by forming a committee again.
