Los Angeles: Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow has spoken candidly about how she copes with anxiety, revealing that shouting at bushes is one of the unconventional techniques she uses—and says it actually helps.
Paltrow shared her thoughts while responding to fan questions during an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on her Instagram Stories. Answering a question on how she manages anxiety, she admitted that she cannot completely avoid it but tries to keep it in check through gratitude, deep breathing, taking walks, self-care, and, humorously, shouting at bushes.
The actress also addressed mental health when asked about dealing with overfunctioning and burnout. She acknowledged that she has struggled with both, saying she remains overworked and burnt out but is making a conscious effort this year to improve by prioritizing sleep and setting clearer boundaries between work and personal life.
In a November 2025 episode of her goop podcast, Paltrow said she believes she has mild ADD, which often pulls her in multiple directions. She added that she is trying to feel more grounded throughout the day.
Reflecting on the pressures of fame, the Marty Supreme star said living for decades in the public eye has taken a toll on her nervous system. She explained that criticism or negative feedback, such as a harsh work email, can feel deeply personal and emotionally overwhelming.
Paltrow also linked her recent experience with anxiety to hormonal changes, describing it as a new phase in her life. She said estrogen dominance has contributed significantly to her anxiety, noting that the issue is a mix of physiological, psychological, emotional, and public-life factors.
She shared that she is actively working on her mental health with the support of therapists, including a specialist focused on nervous system regulation. The actress added that she also finds healing and emotional support through her family, particularly her children and husband.
