GST Collections Rise 7.5% in July to ₹1.96 Lakh Crore

Mumbai – India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose by 7.5% year-on-year in July, reaching ₹1.96 lakh crore, according to government data released on Friday. The increase was supported by strong revenue from both domestic transactions and imports, indicating continued economic activity, though the growth rate was slower compared to recent months.

For the April–July period of the current financial year, gross GST revenue totaled ₹8.18 lakh crore — a 10.7% increase over ₹7.39 lakh crore during the same period in 2024.

In July, the total GST collected included:

  • ₹35,470 crore from Central GST (CGST),
  • ₹44,059 crore from State GST (SGST),
  • ₹1,03,536 crore from Integrated GST (IGST), including ₹51,626 crore from imports,
  • ₹12,670 crore from Cess, including ₹1,086 crore from imports.

July marked the seventh straight month with GST collections exceeding ₹1.8 lakh crore. However, this was lower than the first quarter average of ₹2.1 lakh crore in FY26. GST revenues had peaked at ₹2.37 lakh crore in April, followed by ₹2.01 lakh crore in May.

After accounting for refunds, the net GST revenue for July stood at ₹1,68,588 crore — just 1.7% higher than the ₹1,65,800 crore recorded in July 2024. The modest net growth was attributed to a 66.8% surge in refunds, which amounted to ₹27,147 crore, compared to ₹16,275 crore in the same month last year.

For the April–July period, net GST collections rose 8.4% to ₹7.11 lakh crore from ₹6.56 lakh crore during the corresponding period last year.
