Govt to form committee to look into increasing the reservation for OBCs in Jharkhand

Ranchi: The state government on Monday said that it will form a committee which will look into increasing the reservation for the Other Backward Castes in Jharkhand.

An assurance in this regard was given by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Aalamgir Aalam following a questions raised by Dipika Pandey Singh of the Congress party through a call attention motion during the ongoing Budget Session of the Jharkhand Assembly.

Earlier speaking over the matter the Mahgama MLA said that in Jharkhand the population of other backward caste is more than 50 percent but they are getting only 14 percent reservation. She said that in government appointments and in promotion the people hailing from OBC community are being denied opportunities as they do not have reservation in proportion of their population.

She said that the state Backward Commission has sent a recommendation to the state government that the reservation of the OBCs in the state should be increased from the present 14 percent in proportion with their existing population in the state.

She said that since the reservation of the OBCs was just 14 percent therefore their presence in the government jobs was also very less where as in many district in the district level jobs the reservation for the OBC is at zero percent. The MLA went on to claim that since the OBCs are being denied reservation due to which people from outside are getting government jobs therefore she demanded that the government should look into the facilities that are being provided to the OBCs in states like Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu and provide similar facilities and reservations to the OBCs in Jharkhand.

Poriyahaat MLA Pradeep Yadav joining in the matter said that the government should at least give assurance in the house that only after increasing the reservation of the OBCs in the state recruitment will be held. He said that increase reservation among the OBCs will make sure that outsiders from Bihar and West Bengal are not able to take advantage in government jobs.
