Governor participated in 100th Foundation Day celebrations of ICAR

Ranchi: Governor, CP Radhakrishnan on Wednesday said that the ICAR Institute has not only developed scientific methods of cultivation, collection and processing of safflower and lac using traditional and new host plants, but has also disseminated it for the economic upliftment of lac producers and people associated with the processing.

More than 80% of the beneficiaries of the technologies developed by this institute are poor and marginal tribal farmers of the Chhotanagpur region. Expressing happiness, he said that in the last 99 years, the efforts made by the Institute for the socio-economic upliftment of more than 10 lakh persons by providing them skills directly and indirectly through various initiatives/programmes are commendable.

National Institute of Agricultural Higher Processing’, Namkum, Ranchi, today said that this institute has played an important role in giving direction to agricultural development in our country. The success of ICAR-NISA was possible only because of the dedicated efforts of its scientists, researchers and personnel. His unwavering commitment to agriculture has led to many successes and advances that have benefited our country and the world.

The Governor said that today our country is the world’s leading producer of raw lac, whose annual production is more than 20,000 tonnes, which is about 80% of the world’s total production. The contribution of the Jharkhand state to this is praiseworthy. He said that agriculture has always been the backbone of our nation. He said that despite annual rainfall of about 1500 mm in our state, there are certain problems in the field of agriculture.

Our farmers will have to adopt technology to increase productivity. Honorable Prime Minister is continuously trying to increase the income of farmers. For this, farmers should use secondary farming methods. The year 2023 has been declared “International Millet Year” by the United Nations. 

The Governor said that agriculture-related activities should be increased in the state. He said that there is full potential for organic farming of vegetables, spices, medicinal plants, aromatic rice etc. here. He also inspired for fisheries and poultry farming. He expressed hope that the institute will achieve more remarkable achievements by working with commitment. On the said occasion, the Governor also released ‘Lacquer Color Analyser’ and booklets.
