Government’s priority to provide to provide water from tap into every household: Minister Thakur

Ranchi: Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Mithilesh Thakur said that it is the priority of the government to provide pure water from tap in every household under the Jal Jeevan Mission and to achieve this goal all will have to work with determination. He said that the officers of the department field engineers and contractors should work to achieve this goal with determination and try to remove the problems and obstacles coming in this direction.

He was speaking at a state-level workshop organized at Hotel BNR Chanakya on Wednesday over “Har Ghar Nal Se Jal” under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He said that organizing such a workshop will help a lot in this direction and sincerely hoped that the department will be able to achieve this goal.

On this occasion, he also honoured the officials and contractors who had done excellent work. Mithilesh Thakur said that the department has achieved 21 percent target of the scheme so far but this goal has been achieved in a very short time and in extreme circumstances because all the work was disrupted and development work came to a halt during the COVID-19 transition. Nevertheless, the department had asked the officers to complete all the preparations and as soon as the infection of Covid-19 subsides, start taking this plan on the ground.

He asked the officials to initiate the tender process expeditiously and complete the projects. It is as a result of this that the department has achieved this goal so far, otherwise, the department would have been behind even this he said adding that for this work, all the officers, engineers and contractors of the department are eligible for congratulations, but now they have to be resolute and responsibly to achieve this goal at the time and work fast towards providing water from tap to every household.

He said that the people of the state should get pure water from the tap continuously and if all will work with determination while fulfilling their responsibilities in this direction then surely the department will be able to achieve the goal. The minister told the contractors that whatever work is allotted to them they should be completed on time and if they do quality work before time then they will also be encouraged by the department and they will also be given priority in the allocation of work.

At the same time, he said that after getting the work order, the contractors should try to remove the obstacles in the completion of the schemes and obtain NOC from the concerned department so that there is no delay in the completion of the schemes. It is often seen that many hurdles arise in the field in the completion of the schemes and at that time work is done towards obtaining NOC from the concerned department which leads to delay in the work therefore, along with getting the work order, get the survey done for the problems of the area and get NOC from the concerned department he said.

He stressed the direction of providing drinking water from taps in the rural areas and said that with the cooperation of the villagers, they should work towards providing pure water and suggested organizing Village Water Sanitation Workshop in the village through UNICEF.
