Former DGP faces complaint over alleged criminal links, extortion

Ranchi: A complaint has been lodged at Doranda police station against former Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta. The complainant, advocate Rajiv Kumar, has accused the former police chief of using his position to support organised crime and to collect large sums through unlawful means. The allegations point to links with known criminals and to activities that are said to have caused serious harm to public trust.

According to the complaint, Gupta is accused of working with Sujit Sinha and others to create a group called the Koylanchal Shanti Samiti. The complainant has stated that this group functioned as a criminal network engaged in extortion across coal trading, transport, contracting and other business areas. The complaint claims that these activities took place while Gupta was serving as the head of the state police.

The document also refers to earlier remarks made by Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi, who had spoken about the group receiving weapons from Pakistan and had suggested that an encounter involving jailed accused Aman Sahu was staged. Advocate Kumar has said that such claims raise concerns that go beyond the state.

Further allegations mention misuse of authority during Gupta’s time in senior posts in the ACB and the CID. The complaint says that some officers close to him helped file cases against rivals and that inquiries were used to pressure officials and contractors. Several names are listed as associates in these acts.

The complainant has asked for a full investigation and has requested that an FIR be registered after examining the charges. He has described the matter as important for the security and integrity of the state.
