Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court deferred the hearing on the bail plea of jailed former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav in a case of the fodder scam.
The court of justice Apresh Kumar Singh deferred the hearing till October 9 after he was informed by the CBI that 26 days were still left for Mr. Yadav to complete half of the term of the imprisonment awarded to him.
The lawyer of Mr. Yadav Prabhat Kumar later exuded hope that on October 9 he would be getting the bail. The RJD supremo had filed the bail petition in the Chaibasa Treasury Case of the Fodder Scam. In this particular case, Lalu Yadav was awarded five years of imprisonment by a special CBI court in Ranchi.
On December 23, 2017, Lalu Yadav was first awarded imprisonment of 3.5 years in the Deoghar Treasury case of the Fodder Scam which was related to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 84.53 crore. On March 24, 2018, he was awarded 7-7 years of imprisonment under two separate sections in connection with the Dumka Treasury case which was related to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore.
While in two separate cases of fraudulent withdrawal from Chaibasa Treasury worth Rs 37.7 crore and Rs 33.67 crore he was awarded imprisonment of five years each. Imprisonment in all these three cases was running simultaneously.
In July 2019 he was granted bail in Deoghar Treasury Case while on three occasions his bail has been canceled in the Dumka Treasury case.
Lalu Yadav has remained in jail since December 2017 when he was awarded imprisonment in the Deoghar Treasury case. Currently, he has been kept at the Bungalow of RIMS Director where he was undergoing treatment for various health-related issues as due to rising cases of Coronavirus the RIMS administration decided to move him from the paying ward to a much less crowded and safe location.
