Latehar: Five deers who had ventured outside the Betla National Park were on Monday run over by a speeding goods train near Kechaki Railway Station.
Betla ranger Prem Prasad said that early in the morning he was informed by the villagers about the incident after which a team of the forest department was sent on the spot.
He said that bodies of all the deers were brought to the Betla Range office where the post-mortem was performed and the animals were later buried. It is being suspected that in search of food the animals had strayed into the village and on their way back to the park were hit by a goods train due to which all of them died.
