Families of two people who died in police custody will get compensation, order of the Home Department

Ranchi: The families of two people who died in the custody of Jharkhand Police will get compensation.

The Home Department has issued an order regarding this.

Five lakh compensation will be given to the family of Umesh Singh, who died in police custody in Dhanbad district.

And the truck driver who committed suicide in Sariya police station of Giridih district.

Shakeel’s family will get three lakh compensation.

Home Secretary Abhinash Kumar has directed to give compensation to the DCs of both the districts.

Umesh Singh was detained in June 2015 by Munshi Pawan Singh of Ghanudih Chowki on the instructions of Harinarayan Ram, in-charge of Dhanbad’s Ghanudih OP.

When Umesh Singh did not return home the next day in the morning, the relatives started looking for him.

After this his dead body was found near Ghanuadih Joria.

At that time she was wearing only undergarment.

There were also many injury marks on Umesh Singh’s body.

While his shirt was found in the lockup of the police station.

The deceased’s wife Babita Devi lodged an FIR at Jharia police station against unknown police officers including Harinarayan Ram, Satinder Kumar, Pawan Singh.

But the investigator did not even record the statements of the petitioners for more than one and a half years.

Later the matter was investigated by CID.

In which the CID had exonerated the police officers.

On February 20, 2019, Delhi’s truck driver Mohd. Shakeel committed suicide by hanging himself.

In fact, he was seen in suspicious condition on the terrace of Varun Singh in Bagodih village located in Sariya police station area.

After which the villagers caught hold of him and thrashed him.

After this, the matter was informed to Saria police station.

After which the police took him into custody and brought him to the police station.
