Ranchi: IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre has issued a forecast of an abrupt drop in night temperatures coupled with morning fog and mist in pockets. Weathermen said favourable winter conditions coupled with chill would prevail in the next 48 hours.
A senior official at IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre ruled out any adverse weather conditions in the next week. “Clear sky and dry weather will prevail. This will result in an abrupt fall in minimum temperature by two to three degrees in most places,” he said, adding that the north-westerly winds will continue to dominate most parts of the state following reduced moisture in the air.
Met statistics indicated a fall in minimum readings. The mercury dropped to 12.1 degrees in Ranchi and its adjoining areas. Met department forecasts at least another two-degree fall in minimum readings in Ranchi in the next 48 hours.
The minimum readings dropped to 14.2 degrees in Jamshedpur. In Daltonganj and Khunti, the minimum temperature dropped to around 9 degrees. Ramgarh, Simdega and several other places recorded around 10 degrees Celsius.
Weathermen in Ranchi warned of dense morning fog at a few isolated pockets of the state in the next three days. “The fog will reduce surface visibility below 1000 metres,” said a duty officer.
