DGP says taking all steps to prevent spread of Covid in department

Ranchi: The rising number of Covid-19 cases in Jharkhand Police has got the officials a bit worried with DGP MV Rao himself claiming that all necessary steps are being taken to prevent the spread of infection among the personnel in the department.

Talking to Reporter Post here he said that cases of Coronavirus are related to everyone and not only confined to the police department. He said that in these difficult times also police has to play an active role.

The DGP said that initially only 1-2 cases were detected in the department which has been cured but unfortunately in the last few days the number if cases have rose into double digits. He said that if the cases increase in the police department than it is a matter for worry as police is a very manpower intense department where people in large numbers work in barracks, police stations and even travel in large number in vehicles.

The DGP said that the department has limited force who have to do all kinds of works and due to the pandemic if someone falls ill, goes into quarantine or is detected positive for Covid-19 than work falls on the others.

He said that the department was taking all possible steps needed to prevent the spread among the police personnel but some times things become difficult as policemen have to work among the people. However, he said that going forward more precautionary steps would be adopted.

Over the LWE related incidents, he said that currently the situation was normal and there has been not much up and down in their acts. He said that the ultras had tried to create fear by damaging machinery but on a large scale anti-Maoists operations were on in the state during which some of the maoists were killed, some arrested and arms and ammunition were also seized.  The DGP said that the anti naxal operations will continue in the state till Jharkhand becomes free from them.
