Ranchi: CP Radhakrishnan on Saturday took oath as the 11th Governor of Jharkhand. Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court Aparesh Kumar Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at 11.40 AM during a programme held at Birsa Mandap of the Raj Bhawan. CP Radhakrishnan took the oath in English.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Assembly Speaker Ravindranath Mahto, and cabinet ministers namely Joba Manjhi, Badal Patralekh, Aalamgir Aalam, Rameshwar Oraon and Satyanand Bhokta. Lt Governor of Puducherry Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan were also present on the occasion.
BJP MP Sanjay Seth, JPCC president Rajesh Thakur, AJSU supremo Sudesh Kumar Mahto and many MLAs of the BJP including Naveen Jaiswal and Samri Lal were also present on the occasion. Apart from the senior officials of the state government including those from the bureaucracy and police were also in attendance.
CP Radhakrishnan is a two-time BJP MP from Coimbatore having won the seat in 1998 and 1999. He succeeded Ramesh Bais, who had served as the Governor of Jharkhand since July 2021. Ramesh Bais has been sent as the Governor of Maharashtra.
CP Radhakrishnan had also served as president of the Tamil Nadu state unit of the BJP. Before taking the oath, Radhakrishnan offered floral tributes at the statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. He was accompanied by his wife, and other family members. After the oath-taking ceremony ended Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that the government has a lot of expectations from the new governor.
Later on, talking to the media, the governor said that the development of Jharkhand will be his first priority. He said that poverty cannot be eliminated without development. He said that infrastructure development, providing potable drinking water to every household will be the priority. Later he left for Khunti to pay tributes to Bhagwan Birsa Munda at his birthplace of Ulihatu.
