Ranchi: Late night on April 23, in a horrifying incident, three criminals broke into a home in Chanho and held a couple hostage while robbing them. During the robbery, upon finding minimal cash and jewelry, the criminals threatened the couple with a pistol and forced them into nearby woods. There, they tied the husband to a tree and raped his wife in front of him. Following the assault, the assailants warned the couple against reporting the incident, threatening them with death if they did, before escaping the scene.
It was only three days later that the traumatized couple mustered the courage to approach the police and file a formal complaint. Utilizing technical resources, law enforcement quickly apprehended the suspects, identified as Rajesh Uraw and Rajendra Uraw. One of the accused is a minor.
After committing the heinous acts of rape and robbery, the criminals instilled such fear in the couple that they felt unable to report the crime immediately. On the following day, the perpetrators called the couple from the victimized woman’s stolen mobile phone, demanding a ransom of one lakh rupees. They threatened to kill the couple if they did not comply with their demands.
Reports indicate that the victim repeatedly pleaded for her release while the assault was taking place. The husband, bound and helpless, was unable to intervene, and when he attempted to raise an alarm, the criminals gagged him. One of the attackers pressed a weapon against the husband’s temple, heightening the terror of the situation.
In a bizarre revelation, the assailants claimed that they found the pistol and ammunition while foraging for mahua flowers in Chanho just days prior. However, police expressed skepticism regarding this claim.
Authorities have identified Rajesh and Rajendra Uraw as brothers, residing in the village of Barghada within Chanho police jurisdiction. The third, minor suspect is also related to them. It appears that the trio orchestrated the invasion with careful planning, targeting the unsuspecting couple.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising serious concerns about safety and security in the region. Police are continuing their investigation to ensure that all involved in this heinous act are brought to justice.
