Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday launched a statewide awareness campaign aimed at building a drug-free Jharkhand and sensitising people about the dangers of narcotics consumption, trafficking, and substance abuse.
As part of the initiative, the Chief Minister flagged off awareness and publicity vehicles from the Jharkhand Ministry premises. These vehicles will travel across different districts of the state to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug addiction and encourage people, especially youth, to stay away from substance abuse.
Drug Abuse a Threat to Families and Society
Addressing officials and participants at the launch event, Hemant Soren said the use of prohibited and addictive substances has a severe impact on human health and poses a serious challenge to society. He stressed the need for collective efforts to achieve the goal of making Jharkhand drug-free.
The Chief Minister noted that addiction can destroy an individual’s physical, mental, economic, and social well-being. He said drug abuse not only harms the person consuming narcotics but also pushes families and communities into crisis. He emphasized that society must actively participate in the fight against substance abuse.
Protecting Youth Is a Top Priority
Soren said safeguarding young people from the trap of addiction remains one of the state government’s highest priorities. He described drug abuse as a major obstacle to the progress of families, society, and the state.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the government has been continuously conducting operations against the illegal trade of narcotic substances and taking strict action against those involved in drug trafficking. He said the newly launched awareness campaign aims to educate people—particularly young citizens—about the dangers of addiction and inspire them to adopt healthy and positive lifestyles.
Appealing to the public, he urged citizens to stay away from drugs and actively spread awareness among family members, friends, and communities about the harmful consequences of substance abuse.
Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Vandana Dadel, Director General of Police Tadasa Mishra, and several senior government officials were present on the occasion.
