Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday directed to speed up road construction projects in the state and said that constructing good and quality roads is a priority for state government.
Reviewing the functioning of the road construction department at the project building here he said roads have an important role to play in the development and in areas which have good roads they also progress rapidly as apart from travelling roads also open doors to economic development.
He said that as per the requirements of the areas the roads should be constructed and even asked the officials to ensure better upkeep of the roads. He said that a mechanism should be developed so that everyday progress reports of the various road construction projects can be collected in the state and satis that comprise over the quality of construction of roads will not be tolerated.
The Chief Minister said that the practise of issuing separate tenders for the construction of roads and bridges to be built on it should be done away with as doing separate tenders delays the work. He also asked to speed up the work of ongoing road projects and instructed them to put up milestones so that people can get knowledge regarding the right direction of their destination.
Secretary of the road construction department Sunil Kumar through a presentation pointed out the progress over ongoing road construction projects in the state. The Chief Minister was also informed about the progress of roads being built under SHAJ and the high-level bridges which are being constructed over Koyel River in Garhwa and on Mayurakshi river in Dumka.
Those present in the meeting included Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh, Development Commissioner KK Khandelwal and others.
