Ranchi: All the prominent churches in the capital and other districts of the state have been decked and illuminated on Christmas eve as followers get ready to welcome the birth of Lord Jesus at the stroke of twelve in the clock at midnight. In the state capital of Ranchi all the prominent churches including GEL Christ Church, Saint Maria Church, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Assembly of God Church have been beautifully decorated.
Apart from the church buildings decoration and beautiful lighting have been done on trees and the other structures inside the premises. In wake of the Coronavirus the celebrations will be a bit muted and instead of spending on additional lighting and decoration money will be used to serve the needy. The main function will be held at Saint Maria Church where Archbishop Felix Toppo will perform the mast and other rituals leading to the birth of Lord Jesus at the stroke of midnight.
The Archbishop along with Bishop Theodore Maschernas said that the festival will be celebrated with spirituality and simplicity. They said that all the directions of the state government will be followed and priests have been directed to ensure that social distancing is followed inside the churches.
The duo said that the distance between two benches has been increased in Saint Maria Church and to prevent crowding inside two LED screens have been installed outside. Further seating arrangements have been also made outside the Church for the devotees.
On the other hand, people have also decorated their homes with light and luminaries. Shops selling Christmas goodies including Santa caps and dresses did a brisk business during the day while the bakeries remained buzzing throughout the day with people eager to buy cakes and pastries for their loved ones.
