Chief Secretary asks officials to increase fish production in the state

Ranchi, Jun 22: Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma has directed the
officials to prepare a report on how the fisheries production can be
increased in the state after undertaking a study of the reservoirs and
also asked them to make an assessment on how much fish seeds can be
produced and incubated.

Chairing a review meeting of the fisheries department here she
instructed the help of the ‘Matsya Mitras’ be taken in the project and
also a portal be prepared over which MIS entry of the reservoirs be
made.

Ms Verma said that in-order to reduce the dependency on West Bengal
for fish and increase the production to meet the national demands
plans should be worked out. She also directed to accord special focus
on quality production of fish.

The officials of the department said that against a target to produce
1500 seeds so far 869 seeds have been produced while against a target
to register 10,000 fish seed producers so far 8059 seed producers have
been registered and provided training. The officials said that the
districts have been asked to work with a target of producing 3 lakh
metric tonnes of fish overall in the state.

The Chief Secretary directed that more fish producers be linked with
the scheme and the facilities which are provided by the state
government should be transferred through DBT while the task of Aadhar
seeding of the Matsya Mitras be completed by July 5. She also directed
to appoint MIS manager in all the district fisheries offices of the
state so that the work of data entry can be completed.
